We tend to have a lot going on in our lives. If it is not work or school, it is the growing demands of raising a family or taking care of yourself.

Because of technology, it can be much easier to get through the day. However, there are some places where technology can actually be harmful, such as when a driver is using it while trying to focus on the road. Distracted driving is a growing concern in Louisiana and other states across the nation, and for a good reason.

According to current statistics, distracted driving is the culprit when it comes the growing number of fatal car accidents occurring in the nation. Experts believe that smartphones are to blame, especially after the results of a recent survey. In this survey, roughly 52 percent of licensed drivers owning smartphones stated that they texted, played music, sent emails, browsed the web or watched a video while driving.

What does that mean? This means that around half of all motorists at some point do not have both hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and their mind on the task of driving safely. And in just a mere second, this dangerous activity could cause a vehicle to cross the centerline, move into another lane of traffic, travel through a stop sign or signal or collide with the rear-end of the vehicle ahead of them.

When an accident occurs, victims and the loved ones of those killed in a collision should take the time to understand their rights and options. If investigation reveals that a motorist was using a cell phone at the time of the crash, it might be possible to file a legal action. A personal injury suit or wrongful death claim could help a victim or their surviving loved ones apply accountability of a negligent driver and recover compensation for their losses and damages
