A five vehicle crash including two 18-wheeler tractor-trailers claimed the life of a 26-year-old Alexandria, Louisiana resident last Wednesday, April 19 at about 5:30 in the afternoon during rush hour on Interstate 10 west of La. 415. The accident occurred when an 18-wheeler failed to slow down approaching congestion on the highway.

The truck first hit the back of a 2006 GMC Sierra which veered off the road; the truck continued forward, striking the rear of a 2004 Chevy Impala, which was then pushed forward into the back of another semi-truck, crushing the vehicle between both trucks. The impact also sent the second truck forward into the back of a 2004 F-250 pickup. The two trucks and crushed Impala then caught fire.

In all, six people suffered minor to moderate injuries; the driver of the crushed car was pronounced dead at the scene. According to State Police, charges are pending.

As we have seen in the past, due to their sheer size and weight, truck accidents often leave serious, catastrophic or even deadly injuries in their wake, evidenced by this recent tragedy. Of course, no monetary award can replace the loss of a loved one. The family of the victim however, may be entitled to compensation following the deadly truck accident. Compensation may be awarded for pain and suffering as well as potentially future lost wages from the victim. It may be in the family’s best interest to reach out to a firm familiar with personal injuries to review the case.
