If you go to a motorcycle store, you’ll find a lot of variety when it comes to motorcycle helmets. In fact, there are so many styles and configurations that you may find yourself scratching your head wondering which is best. That’s why we’d like to share this short list ofcharacteristics that you should lookfor when shopping for a new helmet:

Durableness:You’ll want your motorcycle helmet to be hard and durable enough that it withstands the test of time. Do your research before buying and make sure that the helmet reaches a high durability standard. Or, ask the sales representative at the store to tell you about the different characteristics of the helmet you want to buy.

Check the reviews:Do a quick search on the internet to find out what people are saying about your helmet. You might even want to see if any helmets have been reviewed or tested by someone you trust in your motorcycling community.

Make sure it’s the right size:Everyone has a different sized head, and you want to make sure that your helmet fits yours snuggly and appropriately. Not only is size important, but shape is, too. Make sure your helmet is the right shape for your head.

Is it ventilated?A hot day can really cause your head to bake inside of a helmet with bad ventilation. You want to be comfortable no matter the temperature, and, most importantly, you want to breathe.

Face shield:Always buy a helmet with a face shield. One bug in your eyes can be a disaster.

Chin guard:Some of the worst motorcycle-related injuries happen to the chin and jaw area. You’ll want your motorcycle helmet to strap onto your chin, but you will also want it to have a chin protector. Face and chin injuries are very common in motorcycle crashes: Protect yourself!

Always defer to the experts when picking out a motorcycle helmet. Also keep in mind that you can still suffer a serious injury, even if you’re wearing a helmet. If that happened to you, take the time to investigate whether another party was at fault to determine your legal rights and options as amotorcycle crash victim.
