Negligent drivers can turn up anywhere. Whether one is traveling on the interstate, city streets or residential area, if a motorist is distracted, reckless or intoxicated, this can prove to be a very dangerous situation. Even when one follows the rules of the road and is completely attentive, this unfortunately is not always enough to avoid a negligent driver.
This is what occurred in a recent fatal crash in Baton Rouge. According to reports, a two-vehicle crash occurred when authorities were pursuing a suspect in a car chase. Authorities were chasing a 30-year-old motorist that narcotic detectives were investigating and suspected of illegal activities in the area. The suspect attempted to run two officers over with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
During the police pursuit, the suspect collided with a vehicle as it was turning left from Florida Boulevard to Stevendale Road. The 23-year-old victim of the vehicle was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. He did not survive the severe injuries and blunt force trauma suffered in the collision.
According to authorities, speed was a factor in the crash. The fleeing motorist faces several charges related to the police chase and fatal accident. Investigation is still ongoing for this incident.
The loss of a loved one is a difficult event to process, especially when it was caused by the negligence of another party. While no amount of money can bring back a lost family member, there are recourses available for surviving family members to offset the financial losses and damages caused by the incident. A wrongful death claim could help hold a negligent driver accountable while also helping with the recovering of compensation.
