Student driver hit by drunk driver

A driver who the police believe was drunk crashed into a student driver and an instructor in Louisiana. While both appear to be stable and are expected to live through their injuries, those injuries are severe and put both the 17-year-old student and the instructor in the hospital.

According to local reports, the teen and the instructor were driving together at about 5:30 p.m. They had “stopped to yield before merging” when the man in the other car hit them at about 60 miles per hour. It was a violent head-on crash that caused the drunk driver’s car to flip and smash into a third car, though it appears there was only property damage in that case.

Emergency crews showed up and found that the instructor and the teen had serious injuries. Head trauma was reported, as were broken bones. The crews rushed the two to University Medical Center in New Orleans to get the treatment they needed.

Witnesses apparently played a big role in helping out after the crash. One person pulled people from their vehicles while another was able to put out a fire. These actions may have seriously reduced the scope of the injuries.

The police released a statement after the crash thanking those who helped and saying that they wanted the man who caused the wreck to spend as long as was legally permissible behind bars.

Drunk drivers cause accidents that are easily avoidable if they were sober. Those who get seriously injured in these accidents need to know what options they have to seek financial compensation for medical bills and related costs.
