Fleeing the scene of an accident does not only expose a driver to legal penalties but could evidence fault in the collision. Nonetheless, the victims of a hit-and-run do have the ability to seek legal recourses; however, this only occurs when the driver is located.

Fortunately for the victims of a recent collision in Louisiana, authorities were able to locate and secure the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash shortly after it occurred. According to Louisiana State Police, the driver in question caused two crashes in Marrero. The authorities said that a medical condition may have been a factor in the accident.

The first crash occurred in the morning on the West Bank Expressway. The driver of a pickup truck struck two cars. After colliding with these vehicles, the driver of the pickup truck took the Barataria exit. Shortly after taking this exit, the driver ran a red light, slamming into another vehicle. A total of six cars were wrecked.

While police are assessing whether the driver’s medical condition was a factor, investigation is still ongoing. Several people were transported to the hospital following both of these crashes, including an 8-year-old boy who is currently listed in critical condition. Once investigation is complete, police will be able to establish cause and liability.

Those harmed in a car crash are able to hold a negligent driver accountable for the pain and suffering caused by the accident. A personal injury action could help a victim recover losses such as medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and other related damages.
