Alleged reckless driver rear-ends Jeep, killing 2 children

Most drivers in Louisiana adhere to the law, are predictable and operate their vehicles safely. However, some drivers behave recklessly, speed, operate their vehicles under the influence and cause a car crash. With any kind of accident though, there can be catastrophic injuries and fatalities.

The worst kind of accidents are those that involve children. When there are car accidents involving children, it is especially important that their families understand what steps to take in its aftermath. Often, that includes considering a legal filing to receive compensation.

A two-vehicle accident led to the deaths of two children. According to the investigation, a 47-year-old man driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla was driving erratically and weaving on the road. He crashed into the back of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler.

A 34-year-old female was driving the Jeep and had three children — a 12-year-old, an 8-year-old and a 1-month-old — in the vehicle with her. The Jeep flipped over. The woman and the 12-year-old survived with serious injuries. The other two children died. The Corolla went out of control and ran into the median. The driver suffered minor injuries.

He was arrested on numerous charges including negligent homicide. He was given a blood test to determine if he was under the influence and law enforcement is awaiting the results as it continues its investigation.

People who are in a car accident must consider the future. When there is a fatality, there will be funeral expenses and the emotional impact of losing a loved one in an unexpected manner. This is exacerbated when the fatalities involve children.

Injuries can be costly with medical expenses, hospital stays, surgeries, long-term damage and the need for care. Lost wages and the inability to contribute to a home can also be a problem. Insurance companies frequently try to settle a case to avoid a larger payout and people might accept the offer to get the case over with. This can be a mistake as the offer is rarely sufficient to cover all that was lost.

Two children were killed and a woman and another child suffered injuries in a rear-end crash. The driver that hit their vehicle was said to be driving recklessly before the accident and was subsequently arrested. As the case moves forward and law enforcement investigates, the woman and her family must take steps to protect their interests by considering a legal filing. A lawyer experienced in helping people after a car accident should be contacted immediately.
