Today, most residents rely on motor vehicles. While these can be reliable forms of transportation, cars are also the source of risks. Even when a driver followed the rules, this does not protect them from a negligent driver. Whether it is due to speeding, distractions or intoxication, a negligent driver could be the source of a serious of even fatal automobile collision.

According to recent reports, a fatal hit-and-run accident occurred in New Orleans. Based on police reports, the accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. at a 7th Ward intersection. The accident happened when an automobile traveling north and an SUV traveling west collided. The two vehicles crashed in an intersection, resulting in a T-bone crash.

Following the impact of the crash, the automobile traveled on, hitting two residential structures before coming to rest. The two passengers in the vehicle were injured in the crash and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. One of the passenger’s injuries was severe and did not survive them.

The driver of the SUV exited the vehicle following the initial crash, fleeing from the accident site. Investigation is still ongoing, and at the time of this report, police have not located the driver of the SUV. Once completed, investigation could reveal the identity of the driver. If the driver is located, he or she could face criminal and legal consequences. In addition for being charged with leaving the scene of an accident, the driver could face a civil action by those harmed in the crash.

Those injured in an automobile crash have legal courses available to them. A personal injury claim not only holds a negligent driver liable but also helps a victim recover compensation for losses. Additionally, when a person is killed in a crash, their surviving loved ones have the ability to file a wrongful death suit. This could help with the recover of compensation to cover any resulting damages.
